In 2020, sending parcels is still mostly done by burning fossil fuels, which causes huge CO2 emissions. These CO2 emissions have a negative effect on the environment. Burning fossil fuels is also very harmful to human and animal health. In addition, the increasing online orders and therefore the increasing number of shipments are resulting in city centers becoming congested, traffic congestion increasing and odor and noise nuisance increasing. The green transport service of e-Fulfillment Hub offers a solution for this.
Climate and sustainability are becoming an increasingly important theme in our society. Online shops are also increasingly asking for sustainability and efficient transport from the market. E-Fulfillment Hub offers a green shipping service, which contributes to a better environment by reducing the CO2 footprint. We measure the CO2 emissions of all packages that are sent using a smart CO2 meter, so that we can work together with you towards fully sustainable e-fulfilment. We provide you with real-time insight into the CO2 emissions per package or order. With our green shipping service we ensure that your packages are sent to the right address, with fewer kilometers and fewer CO2 emissions.
In the Living Lab Green Fulfillment testing grounds, we test and develop sustainable innovations to reduce CO2 emissions in the logistics sector. The Living Lab has thus developed into the knowledge and innovation platform for sustainable e-fulfilment. We work together with web shops, governments and educational institutions on new technological and social innovations. Would you like to contribute ideas about the Living Lab Green Fulfillment? The development of the CO2 emissions meter is one of the innovation trajectories of the Living Lab Green Fulfillment that is being worked on. By means of a software tool, the CO2 emissions per package or order can be made clear in real-time and communicated to the customer. This real-time insight into the CO2 emissions per package or order is part of our green shipping service that we offer to our customers.
In addition to the CO2 emissions meter, the Living Lab Green Fulfillment is also working on sustainable transport. A pilot has been started with the help of the technologies of innovation partner IM Efficiency. A trailer integrated with solar panels, also known as the SolarOnTop concept, is being tested and validated in the market to stimulate electric transport. Using insights from other innovation trajectories, new insights emerge that can be used when deploying new technologies to further reduce CO2 emissions and thereby improve the quality of our green shipping service.
