Living Lab Green Fulfilment
The knowledge and innovation platform on sustainable e-fulfilment
Sustainability is of great importance in the world of e-commerce and logistics. More and more goods ordered online have to be transported, which leaves a large ecological footprint. The pressure from (environmentally aware) consumers, organizations and governments on companies to deal responsibly with the environment is increasing. This presents webshops and logistics companies with the challenge of operating more sustainably and coming up with sustainable logistics solutions. Think, for example, of the high requirements that are set in the field of sustainable packaging, CO2 emissions, energy consumption, minimizing returns, etc.
Although the need and ambitions are great, it remains difficult for many companies to really become more sustainable. There is often a lack of the necessary knowledge, skills and resources to change, as a result of which the desired sustainability within the sector is lagging behind. e-Fulfillment Hub takes up the challenge to develop new knowledge and concrete practical solutions, so that companies can operate more sustainably. This is based on the ambition to make the world of e-commerce and e-fulfillment greener together. We call that on our way to Green Fulfillment!
To make this possible, e-Fulfillment Hub has taken the initiative to establish the “Living Lab Green Fulfillment”. The Living Lab Green Fulfillment is the knowledge and innovation platform about sustainable e-fulfilment! The Living Lab is a testing ground for research and innovation related to sustainable logistics. With the Living Lab, e-Fulfillment Hub creates a platform where new technological and social innovations are developed in co-creation with all kinds of partners, web shops, educational institutions and governments. On the one hand, the Living Lab contributes to knowledge development about sustainable e-fulfilment. On the other hand, efforts are also being made to develop, validate and implement innovations. In this way, concrete solutions are developed that enable companies to become more sustainable.
In a broad sense, the Living Lab focuses on developing knowledge and innovations related to sustainable e-fulfilment and thus responds to sustainable developments in logistics. In order to give substance to this, so-called innovation processes are being started. An innovation trajectory is a partnership of two or more parties that work together within a specific theme with the aim of developing a new idea, product or process. Every innovation project must make a substantial contribution to making the logistics chain more sustainable. There are currently three innovation trajectories, but new innovation trajectories can be added based on the wishes and possibilities of partners.
The first innovation trajectory is to stimulate sustainable transport. In this process, the SolarOnTop concept of the Helmond-based IM Efficiency (a trailer integrated with solar panels) is being tested and validated in the market to stimulate electric transport. The second innovation project is the development of a system to measure real-time CO2 emissions per package. This trajectory aims to push the boundaries compared to current measurement guidelines for CO2 emissions. Finally, efforts are being made to further develop the Green Fulfillment Maturity Model.
