The Netherlands is a frontrunner in making logistics real estate more sustainable

When it comes to making logistics real estate more sustainable, the Netherlands is in a good position. Research by international real estate consultant JLL shows that 70% of companies think about sustainability when (renting) new locations. e-Fulfillment Hub endorses this trend and is pleased that many companies, just like us, want to operate more sustainably.

Demand for logistics real estate is increasing

Due to the strong growth of the e-commerce sector, millions of square meters of extra warehouse space will be needed in the coming years. In 2025, about 26% of all retail sales will be online, compared to less than 18% in 2020. This translates into the demand for logistics real estate.

High urgency to make logistics real estate more sustainable

The research also shows that the urgency to reduce CO2 emissions is extremely high. After all, there is still much to be gained in this area. When it comes to trade-offs for logistics real estate, sustainability plays only a limited role worldwide. With future growth in mind, this is therefore an enormous opportunity to make significant progress in the field of sustainability.

The Netherlands leads the way

The Netherlands is a global leader when it comes to making logistics real estate more sustainable. 70% of Dutch companies actively take the sustainability of logistics real estate into account. In Europe, this percentage is only 40%, where other continents score considerably lower.

Sustainable buildings

e-Fulfillment Hub has optimized the sustainability of the buildings as much as possible, for example through LED lighting and solar panels, but also through facilities regarding climate, ventilation and light. The new building of our partner Moonen Packaging has even been awarded a BREEAM excellent**** certificate. We would like to inspire the entire sector to contribute to reducing CO2 emissions and to work step by step towards fully sustainable e-fulfilment.
